Velodrome Coffee Company Under New Ownership by MQT Hospitality Inc.

MARQUETTE, MI

Velodrome Coffee Company, a beloved Marquette County coffee chain, has transitioned to new ownership under MQT Hospitality Inc. The change in ownership marks a significant moment for the local coffee scene, with Velodrome Founder Bryce Sturmer passing the reins to a familiar partner.

Founded in 2017, Velodrome Coffee Company first opened its doors on Washington Street before relocating to Third Street in Marquette and later expanding to Ishpeming. Sturmer expressed that the decision to sell was driven by a combination of opportunity and timing.

“Good opportunity, the time is just right, it’s a great organization, and finding people that cared enough to keep it the way it is and keep the vision alive was a big part of that,” Sturmer explained. “So yeah, when they expressed interest, it seemed like the right time.”

Matthew Beardsley, one of the owners of MQT Hospitality, highlighted the seamless transition, given his long-standing working relationship with Sturmer.

“It’s not a lot of other operators that could pick it up so quickly, so we were pretty honored to have it fall into our lap,” Beardsley stated. “We have worked with him for a long time, and there is already a lot of overlap between our companies. It made it easy to say yes to it.”

Under MQT Hospitality’s ownership, Velodrome Coffee Company will continue to operate with the same team, branding, and operational approach that customers have come to love. Beardsley emphasized that there would be no sweeping changes, only minor adjustments to enhance customer experience, such as integrating gift cards and loyalty points across all locations.

MQT Hospitality Inc. also owns 231 West Patisserie and Cruisin’ Coffee locations, further solidifying its presence in the local food and beverage industry. Sturmer will remain involved with Velodrome as an employee during the transition period to ensure a smooth handover.

Velodrome Coffee Company invites its loyal customers to continue enjoying their favorite coffee experiences at both Marquette and Ishpeming locations under the new ownership.
