The author described her writing journey by stating, “I reached a point in my life when I realized that too many of my dreams had been put on hold for far too long. I suddenly became very determined to change that. The fear of failure could not hold me back any longer. I knew that going after what I’ve always wanted to achieve was going to be a risk, but it would still be better than just wishing that I had. So, I just knew that I had to try.”
Atherton went on to say, “It might sound cheesy, but I hope that other people become inspired too. It doesn’t matter whether people like you, what you look like, or if you doubt yourself more than you should—just do something good for yourself. Do it for the dreamer you used to be before adulthood came along. I try to put that same fire to succeed into my characters. They aren’t perfect. At times they can become overwhelmed, but at the end of the day we hope that they will never give up. They will need iron determination if they are going to defeat dark forces and save their world.”
