Juvenile Takes Non-Fatal Fall In Ishpeming From 40ft Rock Face

Ishpeming, Mich. –

Yesterday, July 11th 2023, at around 6:25pm, Marquette County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, along with UPHS Emergency Services, responded to a call about a young person falling from a 40-foot rock face. The victim of the fall and a friend were biking down the RAMBA trails when they saw a rock face they decided to climb. The victim climbed up about 40ft and proceeded to lose their grip. Thankfully, the friend had a cell phone they could use to call emergency services. When the response teams arrived, they found the young person who fell was lucky enough to have sustained only minor injuries. However, the subject did still need to be transported via ATV sled to a nearby ambulance, which took them to Marquette for treatment.

The victim of the fall is very lucky to not have received more serious injuries. This is a great lesson to amateur climbers. Rock climbing is a sport intended to be enjoyed, but one must do so in a safe and prepared way. If they had any rock climbing equipment and know-how this incident could’ve been avoided. Additionally, who of us haven’t climbed something dangerously high in our childhoods? Looks like mom and dad might have to get this lad/lass some climbing equipment and classes for Christmas this year, so they may enjoy the sport safely.
