Marquette, MI – NMU joins the community of post-secondary schools incorporating health and wellness in all decisions moving forward. They’ve done this by signing the Okanagan Charter. This charter is a common framework for colleges and universities to follow in order to become leaders in health promotion.
The Okanagan Charter has two guiding principles:
- To embed health into all aspects of campus culture, across the administration, operations and academic mandates;
- To lead health promotion action and collaboration locally and globally.
The unique nature of the relationship between the student and university gives opportunity to create guiding values for the literal future of our world. Signing the Okanagan Charter means taking steps toward cultivating a community that places weight on values that will improve quality of life. It will be interesting to see how NMU begins to incorporate this sense of direction in the future of policy and culture.
