Marquette, Michigan – December 2, 2015 – Folk singer Claudia Schmidt will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the Marquette Regional History Center. This Beaumier Coffee House concert is co-sponsored by the Hiawatha Music Co-op and the Marquette Regional History Center. A Michigan native, Schmidt has spent more than four decades as a touring professional. She has played in North American and European venues ranging from intimate clubs to 4,000-seat theaters to festival stages before a crowd of 25,000. Schmidt has recorded 19 albums of mostly original songs, exploring folk, blues and jazz idioms featuring her acclaimed skills playing 12-string guitar and mountain dulcimer.
The Boston Globe called Schmidt “a true artist–she has talent and the fire of genius.” The Lansing State Journal reported, “Claudia Schmidt belongs to the genre of hyperliterate songwriters, a word-monger of the first order, sometimes bursting at the boundaries of song form. In addition, she’s a firecracker of a singer, irrepressibly emotional, and a radiant, almost overwhelming performer. It’s the folksinger trifecta, and in this Schmidt is nearly in a class by herself.”
Ticket prices are: students, $5 in advance/$7 at the door; general public, $10 advance/$12 door. For more information, contact the Beaumier Heritage Center at 227-3212.
