NMU Professor Jaime Crabb Selected for NCSBN Duty March 9, 2020

Jamie Crabb, NMU assistant professor and Practical Nursing program coordinator, has been selected to serve on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing as a volunteer item writer and reviewer on NCSBN’s panel of judges. Crabb will aid in the development of the New Generation NCLEX-PN exam.

The NCLEX is a standardized test that every state regulatory board uses to determine if a candidate is ready to become licensed as an entry-level nurse.

“Passing the NCLEX is the ultimate goal with the exception of obtaining a nursing job,” said Crabb. “It feels amazing to be able to steer the future of nursing by partaking in this process.”

One focus of the Next Generation NCLEX exam will be on critical thinking. In this area, the participants will be asked questions that allow NCSBN to gauge if the testing applicant would be able to carry out the appropriate nursing actions. These include assessing the patient, giving the right medication, giving the right dose, performing life-sustaining interventions or understanding how to interpret medical data provided.

“Nursing is committed to excellence and trying diligently to uphold our nursing standards for all those who provide care to others,” said Crabb. “Being able to help that individual when they are feeling their lowest is truly a gift.”

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing is an independent, not-for-profit organization through which nursing regulatory bodies act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting public health, safety and welfare, including the development of nursing licensure examinations.
