The two victims injured in the structure fire located at 528 W. Baraga Ave. were identified as 35-year-old, Marquette resident, John Eric Rachel, and 24-year-old, Marquette Resident, Darrien Nicole Jukkuri. Rachel was transported to UPHS for his injuries and was discharged. Jukkuri was brought to UPHS and was later airlifted to a medical facility to treat the severe burns she sustained in the house fire. Jukkuri was listed in stable condition at this time.
On 03-07-2020 at approximately 11:45 am, Officers from the Marquette Police Department and the Marquette Fire Department were dispatched to 528 W. Baraga Ave. reference a structure fire. Upon arrival to the residence, officers observed the structure was fully engulfed. The residence was evacuated of occupants and the fire was suppressed. Two occupants of the residence were transported to UPHS for injuries. It is unknown as to the extent of their injuries at this time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Marquette Police and Fire Departments were assisted by, Chocolay Township Fire Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, UPHS EMS and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall.
