NMU’s FROST Hosts Bone Identification Workshop August 17th

Marquette, MI – A “Human v. Non-Human Bone Identification” workshop will be held from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, August 17, in room 122 of the Jacobetti Complex at Northern Michigan University. The NMU Forensic Research Outdoor Station (FROST) has invited Michigan State University forensic anthropologist Joseph Hefner to lead the program, which is designed for those who may encounter skeletal remains during their daily work duties.

Combining classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory training, participants will work with whole and fragmentary human and non-human bones, in addition to histological material. Michigan law enforcement officers can obtain MCOLES credit. The course is also designed for first responders, park rangers, wildlife managers and community members who frequently explore the outdoors. The information presented will not be sensitive in nature.

Cost for the workshop is $60. To register, or for additional information, email frost@nmu.edu.
