Marquette – Explore Tech: Family Engineering Challenge: Design a Park and Wind Turbines will be held on Wednesday, September 13 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Youth Services Area of the Peter White Public Library.

Families with youth kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to this Engineering Challenge! Teams will work with Professional Civil Engineer Mikael Kilpela to build wind turbines a design the best park that you can. Parents are encouraged to participate, especially with children K through 5. Grades 6 through 8 will work separate of the younger grades.

Marquette – The community is invited to the annual end-of-summer picnic and barbecue on Sunday, September 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic Street in Marquette.

Activities will include a bounce house, arts and crafts, games, live music, food, ice cream and more. This is also Rally Day, the kickoff of the Sunday School year beginning at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. All are invited to both events.

Gladstone – The Escanaba Fire Department will host an Open House on Sunday, September 10 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Besse Fire Hall, 8189 P.5 Road in Gladstone. The Besse Fire Hall is located just north of the Fernwood Cemetery, or from M-35 head south at the light from Cameron School.

Marquette – Marquette City residents are invited to participate in the “Trash to Treasure Weekend” beginning on Friday, August 25 at 5 p.m. and ending on Sunday, August 27 at 5 p.m. throughout the city of Marquette.

The purpose of the program is to provide a venue for the recycling of reusable household items such as furniture, lamps, electronics and other working household items. The program is designed to increase awareness in recycling by creating an alternative means of reusing items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

Residents can place reusable/serviceable items in front of their house on the curb no earlier than 5 p.m. on Friday. Unclaimed items must be removed from the curb no later than 5 p.m. Sunday. College students are encouraged to participate in the treasure hunt, in that they may find items which will be useful to them in their dormitory or apartment.… Read the rest

Marquette – “Nicole’s Reptile Adventures,” a summer program series offered by volunteer, Nicole Shane, will feature a program on frogs on Wednesday, August 23 at 10 a.m. at the MooseWood Nature Center at Presque Isle Park in Marquette.

“Hop on in and learn about Michigan’s Frogs.” Shane will share fun facts and information on some of our Michigan frogs through photographs, hands-on learning, crafts and exploration. Recommended ages for the program are 5 to 13 years and families are encouraged to attend this fun-filled program.
