DNR Offers ‘Beyond BOW’ Mother-Daughter Event in Marquette County

Marquette, MI – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) Program is offering a Beyond BOW mother and daughter weekend workshop at the Little Presque Isle Cabins, located north of Marquette.

This July 13-15 weekend workshop is limited to eight participants. Opportunities include, kayaking, hiking, fire building, and wilderness first aid, for mothers and their daughters, ages 10 and up.

The cabins are located north of Marquette along Marquette County Road 510.

The $95 registration fee includes lunch and dinner on Saturday, two nights lodging in a rustic cabin at Little Presque Isle, a T-shirt and access to kayaks for the kayaking session. Participants will need to bring appropriate clothing for hiking and kayaking, as well as camping gear.

Marquette’s Fourth of July Planning Meeting – June 27

Marquette, Mi.– The Fourth of July planning meeting for the Marquette Fourth of July Celebration will be at the Marquette Chamber of Commerce this Wednesday, June 27, from 10:00- 11:00 a.m.

The committee is made up of the Exchange Club, Kiwanis, Rotary and Marquette Chamber members, but all community members interested in helping are welcome to attend.

Each organization heads up a part of the celebration:

  • Exchange Club – Food Fest
  • Kiwanis – Parade
  • Rotary – 50/50 for the Fireworks Endowment
  • Marquette Chamber – Fireworks Logistics and Fundraising

Rock Hoppers Hiking Club for Book Lovers

Thursday June 28th: 10 am – 12 noon.  Meet at the Ridge Street lawn outside Peter White Public Library.  Grades 6 to 9 are invited to join.  Walk to Picnic Rocks, have a snack, and talk about books!  Round trip hike totals 2.5 miles.  Hikers should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring their own water.  Fruit and cookies will be provided by the Library.  Free of charge.
