22nd Annual Chicken Barbecue June 7

Hancock – The 22nd Annual Chicken Barbecue will be hosted by the Quincy/Franklin/Hancock Township Fire Department on Sunday, June 7 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Quincy Fire Hall on U.S. 41 in Hancock.
Tickets are $9 and are available from department members or at the door.
Take outs will be available. All proceeds go to the Fire Department.

Great Lakes Walk, Paddle and Roll June 6

Big Bay – The Great Lakes Walk, Paddle and Roll will begin on Saturday, June 6 at noon with a 5 mile paddle around Lake Independence in Big Bay.
Join the supporters and staff of Save the Wild U.P., Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve and Freshwater Future in this fundraising event to support environmental outreach and educational activities.
Other events for the summer include and orienteering event on July 12 in Big Bay and a biking event in Marquette in August.

Hancock – A Car Seat Clinic will be held on Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Portage Health, 500 Campus Drive in Hancock.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will check your child's car seat to make sure it is the right seat for your child and is installed correctly.
The child, car seat, car and parent or caregiver must be present.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life June 19-20

Ishpeming – An American Cancer Society Relay for Life will be held on Friday, June 19 through Saturday, June 20 at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.
The event will begin with a survivors lap at 7:30 p.m. A luminaria ceremony will begin at 9:30 p.m.
This overnight event is teams of eight to fifteen people, camping out for the night and taking turns walking around a track to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Crossroads Challenge Trail Run June 6

Sands – The Crossroads Challenge Trail Run will be held on Saturday, June 6 beginning at 9 a.m. at Blueberry Ridge Ski Trail on M-553 in Sands.
The event will feature at 1 mile fun run, a 5K run/walk and a 12K run.
Entrance fee is #23. Participants will receive a t-shirt and there will be many door prizes.
All proceeds will go toward supporting Crossroads Christian Academy.

Marquette – A 65th Anniversary of D-Day presentation will be offered on Friday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans Chapel in Marquette.
Jim and Loraine Koski will offer a look back is history in celebration of the 65th Anniversary of D-Day. They will share stories of local veterans who were participants.

The presentation is free and open to the public. No advance registration is required.
Learn why storm spotters are are so vitally important to the weather warning process, how to become a weather spotter, and how to submit reports to the National Weather Service.
The program is also open to general weather enthusiasts who want to learn more about the weather.
