Saturday headliner, Tab Benoit in concert – Marquette Area Blues Festival 2008

August 30, 2008

Tab BenoitThe Marquette Area Blues Society held their 5th Annual Marquette Area Blues Festival at Elwood Mattson Lower Harbor Park in downtown Marquette, Michigan on Labor Day weekend. Headlining Saturdays event was Tab Benoit, a Grammy nominated blues artist.

One of the DJ's for Great Lakes Radio accidentally introduced Tab Benoit as Ben Taboit and Tab joked about it for most of the evening. He really has a gift for living and reacting in the moment. A very easy going personality that connects easily with his audience.

Several other concerts are planned for Sunday. Headlining Sundays event is Watermelon Slim and the Workers. The show is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm.

Thank you Great Lakes Radio for co-sponsoring the event.

Frosh football phenom Garrett Pentecost scores six touchdowns

August 28, 2008

Travis PriskWith 15 seconds left in the game, Garrett Pentecost caught a pass from freshman quarterback, Brad Meyers, then ran up the near side and broke through three tackles before scoring a touchdown to tie the Kingsford Flivvers at 40.

Marquette didn't score on their two-point conversion attempt and the game ended in a draw. Pentecost scored all six of the Redmen's touchdowns in the Marquette Senior High School freshman football opener at William Hart Stadium in Marquette on Thursday, August 28th.

Even though Pentecost was the star of the game, it was a total team effort. Several different Redmen made some great plays to bring this one to a tie.

Kingsford's reverse seemed to confuse the Redmen defense on a few key plays but they held strong and came through when they had to. Josh Bullock, Travis Prisk and Kasim Koonala led the defense in tackles.
