3rd Annual Backpack Party

The Ishpeming Salvation Army will be hosting its 3rd annual backpack party on August 26th. Donations are being accepted in the form of school supplies or money and can be dropped off at the Ishpeming Salvation Army or in donation boxes around town. Liz Nevala, director of operations for the Ishpeming Salvation Army, talks about the event.

Donations Needed For Backpack Party

Ishpeming – Donations are needed for the Ishpeming Salvation Army's Backpack Party. Community members are asked to donate backpacks, pencils, paper and any other items associated with going back to school.
No child will be turned away for the backpacks. Pre-registration is the only requirement. Call the Salvation Army at 486-8121.
Car Wash Aug. 1

Gwinn – A Car Wash will be held on Friday, August 1 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Kountry Korners in Gwinn.
The children of the GREAT Summer Program will be washing cars for $5 per vehicle, with proceeds going toward the National Night Out at the West Branch Fitness and Community Center.

County Wide Scavenger Hunt Aug. 10

Marquette – “ARGH – The Amazing Race Goes Historical,” a county-wide scavenger hunt by car, will begin on Sunday, August 10 at 2 p.m. at 145 W. Spring Street in Marquette.
Clues will take participants aroung Marquette County, with the final clue leading to the finish line bash and prize give-away.
The cost is $100 per carload and is tax deductible. Advanced registration is required. Call 226-3571 or register at the museum.

Buzz the Gut Classic Car Parade Aug. 9

Ishpeming – The “Buzz the Gut” Classic Car Parade will be held on Saturday, August 9 beginning in downtown Ishpeming.
Registration begins at 5 p.m. at the Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum.
Over 200 classic cars will parade at 7 p.m. from Main Street to Division/Business 28 in Ishpeming to Negaunee. The parade will go down Iron Street in Negaunee and return to Ishpeming, ending at the Elks Lodge.
A dance will follow the parade from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Elks Lodge, with food and drink available.
