Marquette Regional History Center Hosts “Lost Buildings: Gone but Not Forgotten”

The Marquette Regional History Center (MRHC) is bringing lost buildings back to life as a way to raise money for the capital campaign on Thursday, January 31 at Kaufman Auditorium. MRHC Board President Jim Koski (Q107) and Photographer Jack Deo (Superior View) are teaming up to share pictures and stories of Marquette’s lost buildings, ranging from churches and schools to magnificent architecture.

“Many of the buildings we’ll be showing pictures of and talking about began because community members gathered together to raise the funds to erect them, so it’s fitting we’ll be bringing them back to life, if only for an evening, to help raise money for another building funded entirely by community members.” said Jim Koski. Over fifty long-gone buildings that once made up the city but no longer exist will be spotlighted during the event.

“The best historical photographs from the John M. Longyear Research Library, combined with the best from my collection, will be quite an eye full. Many of the photos have never before been shown to the public. If you think Marquette has some great buildings now, wait until you see what they used to have. It will amaze you.” said Jack Deo. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased ahead of time at Spring and Third, the museum store, online at www.marquettehistory.org or at Superior View, 156 W Washington Street. Tickets will also be available at the door. The event begins at 7:00pm.

The Marquette Regional History Center believes the preservation of the cultural and physical history of our area brings an understanding to the past and present, and provides a guide for the future. The Marquette Regional History Center not only maintains exhibits, artifacts and a research library, it is a forum for engaging the community and creating links between people.
