Dr. Charles Ballard, Professor of Economics at Michigan State University, joined Mark and Walt this morning to discuss his views on the current economic situation in Michigan. Ballard, who is visiting Marquette to speak this evening at the monthly meeting of the Economic Club of Marquette County, discussed his opinions about how the state’s economy got to where it is and what he feels it will take to get it back on track.
He also outlined some of his concepts on the importance of strong, well-funded K-12 schools and universities in the recovery of Michigan and how the budget plan put forth by the Snyder administration does not seem to follow those ideas. He also discussed tax cuts, the tax structure in Michigan and how excessive tax cuts have gotten Michigan into the budget deficit situation it’s in now.
