Marquette County Supports ORV Bill
February 18, 2008
The Marquette County Board has gone on the record, supporting legislation which would allow them – rather than the state government – to decide whether to allow Off Road Vehicles (ORV) on county roads.House Bill 4323, sponsored by Rep. Joel Sheltrown, (D) Howell, passed the state House unanimously. However the state Senate has yet to get the bill out on the floor for a vote. Some urban counties in the more populated southern counties are opposed to the bill, while a majority of Northern Michigan counties have supported it. According to Rep. Sheltrown, who chairs the House Committee on Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources, says the DNR is also opposing the legislation.
