The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering its Boating Skills and Seamanship BSS course during the winter of 2007.The BSS class will include sessions on boat handling, weather, rules of the road, safety, navigation, trailering, and knots. This course is geared for everyone from the novice to the seasoned mariner and is suitable for all boating enthusiasts 10 years of age and up. The course is offered to the public for a nominal materials fee with the instruction provided free of charge by qualified members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The course will be 13 weeks in duration with a final exam. Successful completion qualifies the graduate to receive a certificate of achievement which is recognized by most insurance carriers for vessel insurance discounts, state and local law enforcement agencies and the United States Coast Guard. The Boating Skills and Seamanship course will be held at NMU's Superior Dome. Registration will be the night of the first class on Thursday, January 18 at 7 p.m. Classes will meet once a week. Coures fee is $30.00 for materials. For additional family members the fee is $5.00 each for additional workbooks.
