A Backyard Beekeeping Workshop will be held by the Ontonagon County Michigan State University MSU Extension on Saturday, March 10 at Wahlstroms Restaurant, 5043 US Highway 41 South in Harvey from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Topics covered will be a year in the life of a beekeeper, getting started, the different races of bees, types of queens, raising your own queens, requeening, building bear fences, making splits divides, the latest in beekeeping news, new treatments for mites, emergency feeding, what to use and how, spring medications, spring inspection of over wintered hives and making comb honey. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 7. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee of $25 for adults and $15 for youth 12-18 years old includes lunch. A minimum requirement of 20 participants per session must be pre-registered for the session to be held.
