The 10th annual U.P. Youth Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 24 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the University Center at Northern Michigan University. This year, 25 students from any high school in the Upper Peninsula will be allowed to attend. The conference is free to all schools. Adult chaperones must accompany the students. Lunch and breakfast snacks will be provided. Preregistration is required through the NMU Conference and Catering online site, http://wildcatexpress.nmu.edu. This year’s conference theme is “STOP — Stop Teen Oppression of Peers.” Keynote speaker Penny Norton, nationally-recognized preventionist and the CEO of FACE (Facing Alcohol Concerns through Education), will discuss her national youth-led movement, “Take It Back.” She will describe how youths who care about alcohol issues can become actively involved in creating change that matters in their schools and communities. Teens may select two breakout sessions. For information, call Merrilee Keller at 226-0031.
