Marquette – The Michigan DNR will offer courtesy sound testing of snowmobiles on Saturday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the DNR Customer Service Center on U.S. 41 South in Marquette.
The free sound testing is for 2-stroke machines manufactured after 1980. The check allows snowmobilers to make sure they are complying with state law and acceptable noise levels. The sound test will take about 10 minutes and no enforcement action will be taken if a snowmobile fails. Owners will be encouraged to make repairs or changes to the exhaust systems if needed. Violating sound levels for snowmobiles carries fines of up to $250.
