Kevin Avery Performs at NMU Monday, February 19th

Marquette, Michigan – Kevin Avery, stand-up comedian and writer on HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, will perform at Northern Michigan University. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in Jamrich 1100. Admission is free for NMU students and $1 for the general public.

Avery’s comedy aims to capture the pulse of America with “shrewd, provocative and always-funny observations on modern life. He entertains audiences with his thought-provoking take on current events and social conundrums.”

His other television writing credits include the FX original seriesTotally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and VH1′s Best Week Ever. He also served as the writer, leading actor and executive producer of the award-winning short film Thugs, The Musical. The mockumentary is about a “frustrated, sightly delusional and extremely non-urban black actor who writes, directs and stars in a disastrous musical to prove to Hollywood and the world that he can ‘act black.'”

Platform Personalities and the student activity fee are sponsoring Avery’s visit.
