In conjunction with the One Book, One Community program and the U.P. Childrens Museum Second Thursday Creativity Series, 8-18 Media invites the public to share stories of how their family has expanded to include special people who are not blood relatives or joined by marriage, on Thursday, September 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Childrens' Museum. 8-18 Media journalists will be on hand to record oral histories and recordings will become a part of the museums collection. This years One Book, One Community program book is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. The book is set in the aftermath of 9/11 in the New York City area. One of its themes is how strangers can become close friends and greatly affect the lives of others. 8-18 Media is a news bureau made up of journalists ages 8 to 18 and is a program of the Upper Peninsula Childrens Museum.
