Marquette – “Beads, Rings & Datable Things – GLO #3 Site” will be presented by Jim Paquette on Wednesday, February 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marquette Regional History Center, 145 W. Spring Street in Marquette.
During this program, Mr. Paquette will update information on the recent GLO#3 site archaeological excavation based upon the ongoing analysis of the recovered cultural materials. He will also explain how they were able date this incredible local probable-Anishinaabe family winter hunting/encampment site to the 1630’s!
The tell-tale bead assemblage is the oldest assemblage of French glass trade beads ever recovered and documented in the state of Michigan. Those beautiful brass finger rings are the oldest identified iconographic rings brought into the Great Lakes region back at that same time.
Admission is a suggested $5 donation. For more information, call 226-3571 or visit marquettehistory.org.
