Calendar – Dance – 1950’s Sock Hop at NMU – Nov. 4

Marquette – A 1950s Sock Hop will be hosted by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and the Swinging Cats NMU Swing Dance Club on Saturday, November 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center at Northern Michigan University.

The event will include a dance contest, instruction on a classic ‘50s dance stroll and live music by Drew and the Geezers. Admission is $1 for students and $5 for the general public. Attendees can purchase items from a burger and ice cream stand for an extra cost. Period dress is encouraged.

Jon Teichman will serve as the emcee. The sock hop is being held in conjunction with the “Cold War and the U.P.” exhibition at the Beaumier Center, located at the corner of Seventh Street and Lee Drive on campus. Admission to the exhibit is free and hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
