Ishpeming – The 28th Annual Labor Day Festival will be held on Monday, September 4 beginning at 11 a.m. with a parade along Euclid, Main, and Division Streets and Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming.
This year’s Parade Marshall will be Carolyn Hietamaki, newly retired from MNA. The theme for this year is “Working Together, Leading the Way”. A vast array of local affiliated unions will march together to celebrate the labor movement’s achievements.
After the parade, there will be a picnic and rally from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum (Marquette Range Iron Mining Heritage Theme Park) and the Lake Bancroft Park on Lakeshore Drive and Euclid Streets. There will be music, speeches from candidates, union officials and children’s activities. In addition, Cliff Shaft volunteers will be providing free tours from noon to 2:00 p.m. for those that are interested in visiting the Museum.
The cost of picnic lunch tickets will be $6. The menu includes your choice of a pasty or 2 hot dogs and chips, dessert and pop or milk. Tickets for adult beverages will be $3 each. Additional pop and water will be $1 each.
