Marquette – The 23rd Annual “Learning to Walk Together” traditional pow wow will be held on Saturday, March 18, at Northern Michigan University’s Vandament Arena in Marquette. Doors open to the public at 11 a.m., with the grand entry at noon.
“Learning to Walk Together” is a means to promote cultural diversity within the community. The celebration begins with the grand entry and flag song, followed by the veteran’s song to honor male and female veterans. The event includes traditional pow wow dances and social pow wow dances, with artisan and vendor booths featuring craft items, reference materials and food.
A feast will be held at 4 p.m. at the Jacobetti Complex and is open to all attendees.
NMU students are admitted free with ID. General admission tickets are $5. A pow wow etiquette sheet and more detailed information on the event are available on the NMU Center for Native American Studies website at nmu.edu/cnas.
