Marquette – The Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve and the Community Forest Committee invite the community to celebrate the establishment of the Yellow Dog River Community Forest on Wednesday, February 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ore Dock Brewing Company in Marquette.
The event is being held to mark the completion of the project that resulted in the permanent protection of 688 acres in northern Marquette County along the Yellow Dog River. The Yellow Dog River Community Forest is only 1
of 3 community forests in the state of Michigan at this time. The area is now open to the public to experience the natural beauty of the waterfalls and for silent sport recreation like hiking and skiing. In addition, environmental education programming will commence this summer in order to encourage the community to become better stewards of the environment. Lastly, some sustainable forestry activities will be implemented to benefit wildlife species and the local economy.
Pizza will be provided by Vango’s Pizza, Main Street Pizza, Aubree’s Pizza, Butchie Boy’s Pizza, the Landmark
Inn, and Casa Calabria. In addition, Strung Together will provide music. There will also be a bake sale and raffle baskets. Entry into the event is $10 at the door, $7 for students and kids.
