Lansing, Michigan – November 8, 2016 – At 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, the state treasury department’s MI Student Aid program and Sallie Mae will be hosting a free webinar called “Scholarships for College” in honor of National Scholarship Month. This webinar will go through the challenges of finding, applying and increasing your chances for being awarded scholarships.
“Finding scholarships to pay for college can be overwhelming and many people don’t know where to begin,” said Anne Wohlfert, director of the Michigan Department of Treasury’s Student Financial Services Bureau. “This webinar will educate and inform parents and students about some of the options available when searching for financial assistance that doesn’t have to be paid back.”
Almost a third of college costs were covered by scholarships during the 2015-16 school year, according to Sallie Mae.
Parents and students are asked to register prior to participating in the webinar. To sign up, go to the “Scholarships for College” website and click the “Register” button at the bottom of the Web page.
The Michigan Department of Treasury’s MI Student Aid program encourages students to pursue postsecondary education by providing equality of access to student financial resources and information. For more information, go to www.michigan.gov/mistudentaid.
National Scholarship Month is commemorated annually in November by various organizations and agencies nationwide to celebrate the common goal of helping all students get to and through college.
