Royal Ballet ‘Giselle’ Screened at NMU – 11/13/16

Marquette, MichiganNovember 12, 2016 – The Northern Michigan University music department will present a screening of the Royal Ballet production of Giselle. The event begins at 5 p.m. Sunday Nov. 13, in 1100 Jamrich Hall.

Giselle is the quintessential Romantic ballet. It transformed the dance world when it was first performed in Paris in 1841 and remains at the center of classical dance. The ballet is about a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. A group of supernatural women who dance men to death summon Giselle from her grave. They target her lover for death, but Giselle’s love frees him.

This event is funded by the Siril Endowment for the Music Arts. This endowment seeks to increase student awareness of and appreciation for classical/concert music. This event is free for students and $15 for others.  For more information, contact the NMU music department at music@nmu.edu or 227-2563.
