Negaunee – A continuous showing of the 45-minute documentary, “Memories of a Misfortune,” will take place Saturday, November 5 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum, 73 Forge Road, Negaunee.
“Memories of a Misfortune” was produced by WNMU-PublicTV13. Refreshments will be served, and visitors can sign a registry and share family stories relating to the Barnes-Hecker tragedy.
The 2016 “Barnes-Hecker Remembrance,” encompasses several events. The primary focus is the descendants who are the living legacy of the men who perished. The events also honor the 42 women who were widowed and the family members who lost fathers, brothers, grandsons, uncles and fiancés; and recognize the legacy of 132 minor children and their descendants, many of whom reside in Marquette County.
The events will also honor the common mining heritage of the region, and mine safety programs that strive to keep workers safe.
