Marquette -The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will launch a new exhibit titled “Remnants: Ghost Towns of the Upper Peninsula.” An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Heritage Center.
Director Dan Truckey will give a gallery talk on how in each of the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties, there are several communities that could be considered ghost towns. The exhibit will feature one community from each county. Every town and its tale are different, from the first mining operation in Michigan to Henry Ford’s model town. The exhibit will include contemporary photographs, a history of each site and a drone video presentation featuring each of the communities.
Refreshments will be served and admission is free. The exhibit runs through January 15. For more information, visit nmu.edu/beaumier, call 227-3212 or email heritage@nmu.edu.
