Ishpeming – The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will meet on Sunday, January 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid Street, Ishpeming.
Doors open at 1 p.m. to allow time to view the club’s extensive mineral collection. The program will be “Gemology” by Cory Mcbee, gemologist, of Marquette. Mcbee will provide a breakdown of what a gemologist is and what gemology does for the jewelry industry.
There will be gemological equipment to view and Mcbee will give a general break down of what each piece is used for. He will also explain the difference between natural and synthetic/lab created gems, and will cover old and new methods of improving gemstone quality and clarity.
The public is invited to attend. There is no admission charge.
