‘Welcome to Medicare’ Seminar through the UPCAP

TURNING 65?

‘WELCOME TO MEDICARE’ SEMINAR OFFERED

UPCAP’s Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) is offering a free seminar to help folks new to Medicare understand their benefits and choices on Tuesday, September 1st from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Gogebic-Ontonagon CAA Building on 429 River Street, Ontonagon. According to Sherry Whitman, UPCAP’s MMAP Coordinator, Medicare has become much more complicated over the past several years. Whitman states, “Medicare now includes choices on how to receive your health benefits, as well as offering prescription drug coverage. Most people have a difficult time understanding their options and have no idea how to choose the ones that are best for them.”

Whitman adds that the seminar is targeted towards new retirees that will be eligible for Medicare sometime within the next six months. “We will explain the basics of Medicare, and discuss what folks should be thinking about when making decisions on their Medicare choices. We will also talk about programs that may be available to help pay out-of-pocket Medicare costs.” There is no charge to attend this informational event and a helpful workbook will be provided to each participant.

Registration is required by calling 1-800-803-7174, or by dialing 2-1-1 and indicating your desire to register for the “Welcome to Medicare” event in Ontonagon on September 1st.

MMAP is a free community-based, health-benefits counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their families. MMAP is funded by state and federal agencies and does not sell or endorse any insurance product. MMAP is locally sponsored by UPCAP, the U.P. Area Agency on Aging. For more information about MMAP, dial 2-1-1 from anywhere in the U.P. or visit www.upcap.org.
