Marquette, MI – The Michigan’s School Health Partners will celebrate the work the partners are doing to support students across the state at a legislative briefing this Friday, Feb. 13, from 1:30–3:00 p.m. in Marquette.
Upper Peninsula lawmakers, school health representatives and school district administrators will discuss the returns generated through high-quality, coordinated school health programs.
Michigan’s School Health Partners include the Michigan Coordinated School Health Association, the Michigan Association of School Nurses, the Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health, and the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan. To date, these partners have experienced success in the Upper Peninsula, providing services like four school-based health centers, implementation of the Michigan Model for Health ® , promotion of coordinated school health, and a pilot school nurse partnership program.
According to event organizers, few K–12 initiatives provide the robust returns available through coordinated school health programs. Not only are public investments well matched by other sources, but coordinated school health (whole child) programs pay real dividends in terms of student results. High-quality health supports have a proven impact on student learning. They are associated with better school attendance, improved behavior, reduced dropout rates, and stronger academic outcomes. Students make better lifelong choices fostered by strong school-based programs, and public health care costs are reduced while productivity and achievement flourish.
The event will take place at the Marquette Alger Regional Educational Service Agency, 321 E Ohio Street, Marquette, Conference Room C.
