Keynote Presentation on Advance Care Planning Open to the Public October 21st

Marquette, MI- Stephanie Anderson, a Senior Consultant/Faculty for Respecting Choices at Gundersen Health System, will be speaking on Tuesday, October 21, at 6:30pm at the Great Lakes Rooms in the Don H. Bottum University Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University. Anderson’s presentation will close out the first day of the 2014 Upper Great Lakes Palliative Care and Hospice Conference. Her presentation titled, Designing an Advance Care Planning System That Works, will provide an overview of Advance Care Planning, the importance of system development, and how to create and sustain an effective Advance Care Planning program.

“I am looking forward to bringing Respecting Choices Advance Care Planning (ACP) information to the state of Michigan. There is coordinated and innovative ACP work happening across the state with a goal of knowing and honoring a person’s healthcare treatment decisions in the event they are unable to speak for themselves” says Anderson. “Respecting Choices differs from conventional Advance Directive initiatives, which help account for its success in achieving care in greater accord with a person’s wishes. This evidence-based model of care is being implemented in many areas of the state.”

The Tuesday night presentation is free and open to the general public. The event is hosted by Lake Superior Hospice and Lake Superior Palliative Medicine, and brought to you in part by the NMU School of Nursing with generous sponsorship by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.

The Upper Great Lakes Palliative Care and Hospice Conference will be held on October 21 and 22 at Northern Michigan University. The conference will feature keynote speakers, concurrent sessions, and preconference interactive workshops. General registration is available at the rate of $125 for those who register through October 12th and $50 for verified students.
