Little Trout Lake Park Grand Re-Opening & Ribbon Cutting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: March 31, 2026 Little Trout Lake Park Grand Re-Opening & Ribbon Cutting, June 13th K.I. Sawyer, MI — Marquette County and community partners invite the public to attend the Grand Re-Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Little Trout Lake Park on Saturday, June 13, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event celebrates the completion of extensive park renovations made possible through funding from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources SPARK Grant Program. The revitalized park now serves as a trailhead of the Silver Lead Creek Greenway and is a vibrant community gathering space focused on recreation, wellness, and accessibility. Recent improvements include:

● New lake-top pavilion and performing arts space
● Wellness pavilion with restrooms, covered picnic seating
● Food truck pad w/ electrical connections and farmers market space
● Pickleball, sand volleyball, and bag-toss courts
● Youth sand and water play area
● ADA-accessible pathway and fishing access, picnic area on the south side of the lake with solar lighting
● Native plantings, natural landscaping, and interpretive signage

The June 13th celebration will feature a variety of family-friendly activities and opportunities to experience the new amenities, including:
● Live music and food truck
● Pickleball, volleyball, and bag-toss games
● 5k Fun Run/Walk
● Community gathering, wildflower planting, pavement art visioning, and park exploration

“This project represents a significant investment in community wellness and quality of life for the K.I. Sawyer area,” said Thyra Karlstrom, Marquette County Manager of Planning. “We are grateful to the Michigan DNR SPARK Grant Program and our many partners and supporters who helped bring this project to completion. This grand re-opening celebrates a true community effort, and we look forward to seeing families, friends, and neighbors come together to enjoy the day and experience all that the park has to offer.” The ribbon cutting will take place shortly after noon, followed by an afternoon of open activities for all ages. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend and celebrate the reopening of this important community space. Bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the live musical performance.
