Marquette – The U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship will begin on Friday, February 20 at 7 p.m. on Washington Street in downtown Marquette.
This a competitive, 12 dog, mid-distance sled dog race, approximately 240 miles in length and is a qualifying race for the Iditarod. A maximum limit of 40 mushers will be registered for this race.
From Marquette, the trail will wind in a northeasterly direction through the town of Deerton, traveling on to the first checkpoint at Wetmore. Then mushers and dogs move toward Grand Marais before turning around and heading back to Marquette.
On Sunday, February 22 in the afternoon or evening the mushers finish the race by going through the finish chute at the Lower Harbor in Marquette.
