Houghton – The 2nd Annual Lake Superior Day will be held on Sunday, July 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the 6th Street Dock along the Copper Harbor Board Walk in Houghton.
Free rides on the Michigan Technological University research vessel Agassiz will give people a peek at how scientists study the Great Lakes, departing every half hour from the Isle Royale Queen Dock.
Other activities include a community picnic featuring fish stew, homemade pies and rieska (Finnish flatbread), canoe races and kayak demonstrations, interactive art, demonstrations of a remotely operated underwater vehicle by Dollar Bay High School students, live music, poetry and a presentation on the health of the Great Lakes by Marcel Dijkestra, a PhD candidate at Michigan Tech.
