Historian and photographer, Mikel B. Classen celebrates the release of his new book, “Au Sable Point Lighthouse” with a presentation on Thursday, July 24 at 7:00pm in the Peter White Public Library Shiras room.
Au Sable Point Lighthouse marks a mile-long sandstone reef that reaches out into Lake Superior along the famed “Shipwreck Coast” and was a beacon of hope and safety to passing mariners. Classen’s book charts the history of the lighthouse and the dangerous reef that lies nearby six feet under the lake’s surface and serves as the final resting place for so many sailors.
Mikel B. Classen has been writing about northern Michigan in newspapers and magazines for over thirty-five years, creating feature articles about the life and culture of Michigan’s north country. A journalist, historian, photographer and writer, Classen makes his home in Sault Ste. Marie and is a collector of out-of-print history books, historical photographs and prints of Upper Michigan. Learn more about him at www.mikelclassen.com.
A book sale & signing follows the presentation which is open to the public at no admission charge. For more information call the library at 226-4318 or visit www.pwpl.info.
