Lake Superior Theatre Presents “Pippin” Musical to Open Season July 9

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince PIPPIN (played by Ethan Bott) is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great, played by Jeff Spencer). In the end, though, Pippin finds happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day. Director, David Dagenais said “The message Pippin delivers is universal: While we are often searching for extraordinary things, true happiness is found in everyday ordinary things”.

“Pippin audiences can expect to see outstanding singing, dancing, and acting performances from a very talented cast. Choreographer Jill Grundstrom has created an amazing dance show inspired by work of the legendary Bob Fosse” said Dagenais. The show features an ensemble of 11 players along with a principal cast consisting of seasoned pros and local favorites such as Alexandra Marks as Fastrada, Shelley Russell as Berthe, and Sara Parks as Catherine. Newer faces to Marquette audiences include Donovan Chambers at the Leading Player and along with Sam Arsenault as Lewis and the brother duo of Enzo and Antonio Stabile rotating in the role of Theo.

The 1960’s-70’s musical style of Stephen Schwartz and the book by Roger O. Hirson sets Pippin apart from many other musicals. The actors sometimes break the “fourth wall,” speaking directly to the audience. With an unforgettable score from musical theater giant Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, GODSPELL, CHILDREN OF EDEN), PIPPIN’s message is universal, and the Lake Superior Theatre production boasts an outstanding cast of performers!

Parental guidance is suggested as Pippin contains some adult themes and language that may not be appropriate for young children. The show is rated PG-13.
