MGH Neurosurgeon Accepted into Harvard Clinical Research Program

MARQUETTE–Marquette General Neurosurgeon Dr. Richard Rovin has been accepted into the Harvard Medical School Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program.

The GCSRT Program provides clinicians and clinician-scientists a strong foundation in the methods and conduct of clinical research. The blended-learning approach to this one-year program enables clinicians from around the world to participate. The Program’s curriculum is designed to enable scholars to develop knowledge and sharpen skills in clinical research.

“The knowledge I will gain from this training program will give me the expertise to bring clinical trials to the Upper Peninsula that will focus on improving outcomes for individuals suffering with brain tumors,” said Dr. Rovin.

The 2015 program begins on June 21, 2014, and ends on June 6, 2015. During this year, the blended-learning approach combines the traditional face-to-face teaching methods of three workshops with computer-mediated activities and webinars to form an integrated instructional approach. Scholars have 24/7 access to all learning content and can participate at any time and place best suited to their needs. The program emphasizes team-based learning with scholars working together in groups to collaborate, discuss and problem solve while also learning from each other – a method that leads to a deeper and more enduring understanding of topics.

Board certified in neurosurgery, Dr. Rovin completed his neurosurgery residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and earned his medical and undergraduate degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston. He is medical director of the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center, a collaborative effort between MGH, Northern Michigan University and the Superior Health Foundation to empower patients and families dealing with a brain tumor through advocacy, research, education and treatment.
