FLINT, Mich. – Center for Civil Justice (CCJ) was awarded two $40,000 grants from The Food Research Action Center (FRAC) to fight hunger and advocate for anti-hunger policy at the state and federal level. One of the grants will be split with the newly formed Michigan Hunger Solutions, an anti-hunger organization comprised of former CCJ staffers. This grant will continue to support CCJ’s long standing work in the anti-hunger arena, particularly around state and federal anti-hunger initiatives such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps) outreach and child nutrition programs.
“FRAC is a nationally recognized leader in the anti-hunger arena,” said Edward J. Hoort, Interim Director of CCJ. “To continue our partnership with them, as well at Michigan Hunger Solutions will be a great help in our work to keep Michiganders from hunger.”
Center for Civil Justice participates in a variety of anti-hunger advocacy efforts, seeking systemic improvements in the benefits, services, eligibility and administration of local, state and/or federal food programs to prevent hunger. Previous work by CCJ and funded by FRAC has included advocating against SNAP cuts and for various child nutrition programs.
FRAC is the leading national nonprofit organization working to improve public policies and public-private partnerships to eradicate hunger and undernutrition in the United States. FRAC works with hundreds of national, state and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, corporations and labor organizations to address hunger, food insecurity, and their root cause, poverty.
