Fast facts:
– MDOT is closing I-75 between M-134 and M-48 in Chippewa County for culvert replacement.
– Work is expected to begin Tuesday, June 17, and end in late August.
– Motorists will be detoured via Mackinac Trail; an alternate route is available for commercial vehicles but will not have detour signs posted.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is suggesting an alternate route for commercial vehicles for an upcoming culvert replacement project on I-75 in Chippewa County.
Tentatively scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 17, I-75 will be closed between M-134 and M-48 while MDOT replaces a large culvert less than a mile north of the Chippewa/Mackinac county line. Work is expected to last until late August.
Motorists will be detoured via Mackinac Trail. Legal loads can follow the official detour or seek an alternate route. No overweight or overwidth loads will be permitted on the official detour. While there is no signed commercial vehicle detour, northbound commercial vehicles can use an alternate route that includes taking M-134, M-129, and either M-80 or M-28 back to I-75. The southbound alternate route will be the reverse.
