MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its June exhibition: Collections by photographer, Christine Hinz Lenzen. This installation is composed of archived family photographs, found bottles, cheesecloth, wax, wine and wood. Lenzen received her BFA from the University of Minnesota and her MFA from the University of Notre Dame. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Photography at Northern Michigan University.
The SmallWorks Gallery will feature: Essence of Scene and Spirit of Wood by artists Tomoko Hirao and Takayuki Fukuyama. Fukuyama is a Japanese Style Painter who studied at Kyoto Saga University of Arts. Takayuki has been the recipient for several awards including The Ueno Royal Museum Exhibition, Grand Prize. His paintings reflect his desire to honor nature’s beauty.
Tomoko Hirao is a traditional woodcarver who originally studied oil painting at the Kyoto Seika University. After being apprenticed by shrine carpenter, Master Masahiro Omura, Tomoko studied the technique to use wood. She now works from her own wood working studio in Shiga, Japan. Hirao is traveling from Shiga and will attend the artist reception.
The shows will be running from June 3-28. There will be an artist reception on Thursday, June 5 at 6-8p.m. The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.
