ISHPEMING – The Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce (GINCC) is excited to announce a new run coming to Ishpeming on August 23, 2014: The Northern Lights Rave Run 5K and Kids’ 1K. This event will be held at Al Quaal Recreation Area and is taking the place of the Suicide Hill Mud Plunge. The Mud Plunge served as the Chamber’s primary race event for three years.
The Rave Run is a night-time, glow-in-the-dark run. Participants will run through Al Quaal’s wooded trails, brought to life with special, glowing and neon light displays and finish the race running into a giant tent, filled with upbeat music, a dazzling light show, and lots of family fun. Racers are encourage to get creative and deck themselves out in costumes, glow-paint, glow sticks, and whatever else they can think of.
Times for the event are as scheduled:
6PM – Picnic Festival with games and vendors
8PM – Kids’ Race
8:30-9PM – Kids’ Race award ceremony
9PM – 5K begins
Across the Unites States, these runs have grown in popularity and have been called such things as: The Glow Run, Ready, Set, Glow, The Electric Run, and more. When naming this race, the Northern Lights Rave Run committee decided to pay homage to our own naturally occurring glow-in-the-dark source in the Upper Peninsula: the Aurora Borealis.
