Marquette – The Transition Marquette County Reading Group will have a conversation about the book “The Windup Girl“ by Paolo Bacigalupi, on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Peter White Public Library.
In a dismal but not to distant future, a man in Thailand is searching for food stocks thought to be extinct as a result of climate change and disease. Emiko is the Windup Girl, beautiful but strange. She is one of the New People – not human but engineered, creche-grown, programmed to satisfy and obey a Kyoto businessman, but now abandoned to the streets of Bangkok.
