Ishpeming – The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will meet on Sunday, February 16 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid Street, Ishpeming.
Doors open at 1 p.m. to allow time to view the extensive mineral collection. James Paquette will present the program “Excavation of a Mid-17th Century Proto-Historic First Nation and French Contract Site in the Central Upper Peninsula.” This will be an overview of the recent archaeological excavations in 2012 and 2013 that were under taken at the site. He will speak on the evidence that has been uncovered at that the site that might be a Anishinabe Family winter encampment dating back to the 1630-1640 time period.
A silent auction of mineral specimens and a business meeting will follow the program. For more information, call 228-9422.
