DNR’s License System to be Offline Feb. 25 and 28 for System Updates

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will temporarily take its license sales system offline for portions of the day on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and Friday, Feb. 28, to perform system updates. License purchases will not be available in stores or online during this time. The updates are necessary to prepare the system for the 2014 license sales year, in which new hunting, fishing and off-road vehicle (ORV) license structure and prices will go into effect as of March 1, 2014.

System downtime will be on Feb. 25 from 6:30 a.m. to 12:05 p.m, and on Feb. 28 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. During the intervening time (between Feb. 25 at 12:05 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.) 2013 license year items will be available for purchase. As always, on March 1, the new license year begins and only 2014 licenses will be available for purchase.

“We have planned this update to take place during a time when it will have the least impact on license buyers,” said Denise Gruben, manager of the DNR’s licensing system. “We are at the end of the 2013 license year, and most people will have already purchased their 2013 licenses.”

As a reminder, snowmobile permits can be purchased at retailers listed on the Michigan Snowmobile Association’s website at www.MSAsnow.org (click on Trail Permit Agents on the left navigation bar). These licenses are pre-printed and will still be available for purchase during system downtime.

Information about the new hunting, fishing and ORV license structure and prices can be found in the In the Know section of the DNR homepage at www.michigan.gov/dnr.

License agents who would like further details about the shutdown or system changes are advised to check their system bulletins or the agent website. A letter detailing the changes and training opportunities has been mailed to agents.

The license system is used for selling hunting, fishing, ORV, snowmobile and other types of licenses and permits, and for collecting donations to Sportsmen Against Hunger. These retail items are available at more than 1,400 license sales locations throughout the state and online at www.mdnr-elicense.com.
