Shakespeare Readers will meet on Wednesday, February 5 at 6:30 pm in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room for a reading of “Taming of the Shrew.”
Shakespeare’s comedy about the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katharina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew, is believed to have been written around 1590 and first performed soon after.
“Taming of the Shrew” has undergone many adaptations for stage and screen. The most famous musical adaptation is Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me Kate” first performed in 1948. In 1967 Franco Zeffirelli directed Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in a film version of the play which was both a box office and critical success.
Shakespeare Readers is a group for anyone who is intrigued with reading the works of William Shakespeare. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month and new readers are always welcome.
