(Marquette, MI) – Tickets are now on sale for SEUSSICAL JR. playing at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette starting on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. The musical is based of the works of Dr. Seuss with Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Music by Stephen Flaherty, Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Co-Conceived by Eric Idle. The Lake Superior Youth Theatre cast contains approximately 127 youth ages 3 to 18 led by Director, Nikke Nason.
“While this production stays true to both the works of Dr. Seuss and Broadway production, we’re also adding some technical elements utilizing the strengths of our local dancers, gymnasts, and Ariel Artists. The youth involved in the cast and crew have a large variety and high skill level of talents and this is a show that allows us to utilize all of those talents”, said Director Nikke Nason.
The show features Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters springing to life onstage in SEUSSICAL JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat (played by David Bashaw) leads the audience on a journey telling the story of Horton (played by Andy Vanwelsenaers) , an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo (played by Enzo Stabile), a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks”. Horton’s challenge is twofold- not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (played by Sophie Shahbazi). Through his journey the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (played by Mallory Grugin) never loses faith in him. Join us for this incredible journey through the world of Dr. Seuss.
The Lake Superior Youth Theatre’s mission is to empower young people to maximize their potential through performance arts training and the creation of outstanding theatrical and musical art. Previous productions in the past year have included “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.”, “A Man Named Marquette” and “Honk Jr.”.
