ESCANABA, MICHIGAN — The Delta County Area Chamber of Commerce and presenting sponsor, Michigan Works! the Job Force Board, will provide the perfect environment during its annual dinner next week to commemorate one of the area’s best celebrations ever, Escanaba’s Sesquicentennial. The event, open to all area residents, is set to begin Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Island Resort with a 5:30 social and 6:30 dinner.
The theme of the annual party and awards ceremony memorializes Escanaba’s months-long 150th birthday celebration, said Chamber Executive Director Vickie Micheau. The celebration took place this past summer throughout Delta County.
“This 150th celebration was blessed with incredible contributors along with various committees led by creative, tireless organizers, and a sense of teamwork that brought everyone together. We can’t find any better reason to celebrate,” said Micheau.
As part of the 150th theme, both dinner and entertainment Thursday night will provide the flavor of an elegant picnic of the 1860s in Ludington Park.
The dinner will also feature a Community Awards Ceremony, Delta Force Graduation and induction of the new Chamber Board.
Micheau said the Awards Ceremony recognizes many aspects of our community, such as education, women in leadership, and business and industry. “Throughout the year, day in and day out, many residents roll up their sleeves and work incredibly hard, improving the quality of life throughout our area. This night allows the entire community to recognize their efforts,” she said.
The Delta Force Leadership Program is also celebrating a big year, relatively speaking, Micheau said. The 11-year-old program, which includes over 20 students, assists residents who would like to attain skills enabling them to strengthen their community leadership and civic involvement.
Starting in January, the program is broken up into nine full-day sessions covering several key areas, including education, social needs, personal skills, and media relations.
Tickets for the annual dinner are $30 and may be purchased at the Chamber, 230 Ludington St., Escanaba, or on line at www.deltami.org.
